Family visits
Children are welcome in the gallery. We have stools for shorter visitors, and many of our clocks can be seen in action. We have a quiz (with a prize), and offer regular family workshops during the school holidays.
Babies and younger children
We have baby changing facilities, a large disabled toilet and kitchenette, and plenty of places to sit. Breast and bottle feeding is welcome anywhere in the building. We have some limited space to store buggies.
Schools
The collection at The Clockworks intersects with topics covered in the Science, History, and Design and Technology aspects of the National Curriculum, including levers, sliders, wheels and axles (Year 1), telling the time (Year 2), and electricity (Year 4 and Year 6).
We are happy to host school visits to the museum and can provide exclusive use of the gallery, as well as an introductory talk and activities that build on aspects of the National Curriculum at Key Stage 2.
Visits are available between Tuesday – Thursday, 10-12 or 12-2pm. Please contact us to discuss dates and times.
We encourage teachers to visit the museum in advance to familiarise themselves with the space and collection.
All entry to the museum is free.
Please note that for safety reasons, educational groups are restricted to 30 children plus teachers and helpers (we recommend a ratio of 1:10 for students up to 10 years old).

Young People (age 14-18)
We are always happy to speak with students and teachers about using the collection at The Clockworks as the basis for an EPQ or Extended Essay in Maths, Engineering or Physics.
We also encourage visits to the museum and workshop at The Clockworks from young people interested in exploring a career in clockmaking. In some cases, we are able to offer short work shadowing opportunities in the studio.
Adult Learning
We regularly host work placements in the studio. These are usually students on clockmaking courses in the UK and abroad. We are always particularly keen to meet clockmakers with an interest in early electrical horology.
All placements are subject to availability. Please contact us to discuss further.
