Companies The Standard Time and Telephone Company (trading c.1876-c.1970)

Barraud & Lund were originally chronometer makers, but operated as a time synchronisation service from 1868, under the leadership of John Alexander Lund. In 1882, Lund established a dedicated new company, the Standard Time and Telephone Company (abridged to the Standard Time Company in 1886). The business was subsequently taken forward by venture capitalists Back & Manson, who floated it on the stock market, but the venture never reached critical mass. It did, however, continue providing a time service in various permutations until the middle of the twentieth century.
